The collection consists of records relating to the establishment and activities of the Literary Artists Guild. Included are correspondence, primarily of Ann Chandonnet and Dale Stirling, newspaper clippings relating to the organization and its activities, copies of the articles and certificate of incorporation, photographs and graphics, the organization's logo, and a membership card, and the organization's newsletter.

Ann Fox Chandonnet was born in Massachusetts in 1943. She obtained a B.S. degree from Lowell University (1964) and a M.S. degree in English literature from the University of Wisconsin (1965). She taught in Kodiak, Alaska, and in Massachusetts. She returned to Alaska in 1973. She has published a number of poetry collections and has written several cookbooks, a children's book, and a history of Eklutna Village. Dale Alexander Stirling was born in California. His family moved to Alaska in 1965. He attended Alaska Methodist University, the University of Alaska Anchorage (B.A., 1980), and Alaska Pacific University (M.L.A., 1984). He worked for the Alaska Department of Natural Resources as a historian (1980-1986) and operated a consulting firm, Heritage North. The Literary Artists Guild was established in 1981 by Anchorage poet, Ann Chandonnet, to be a forum for Alaskan writers. Its activities included organizing workshops and conferences, and promoting and publicizing the works of Alaskan writers. The guild was disbanded in 1982 because of a lack of participation.
